ANNUAL REPORT

YEAR 2013 – 2014

JUNE:           On 17th June school reopened for the new academic  year 2013 – 2014. A prayer service was held to seek God’s abundant blessings on the management, staff and the students to carry out their duties. Every teacher was handed her personal as well as class time-table. The Principal Sr. Zarina welcomed the teachers and students back to school, after a refreshing summer vacation. After the assembly, the students proceeded to their classes to meet their class teachers. School gave over by 10:30 a.m.

            The Management organized an orientation programme for the teachers on 20th  June in the school hall. The speaker for the day was Dr. Marie Fernandes Principal of St. Andrew’s College, Bandra. It was a motivational session for teachers. She dealt with topics like how can teachers excel in their work and improve their skills? How a teacher can set a good example to her students? The teachers were greatly motivated by the session and assured her of.

            Every month had a theme that we stressed on in our assembly. Using the theme, the assembly was conducted by every class. Values like thanksgiving, joyfulness, kindness, love, gratitude, honesty, respect, discipline, tolerance, truthfulness, positive thinking, prayer service and compassion were inculcated in our everyday class assemblies.

            The Investitures ceremony was held on Friday 21st June. A prayer service was conducted to invoke God’s  blessings on the newly appointed prefects.

            Parent – Teachers meetings were conducted on 24th , 25th & 26th of June class – wise from 8 – 9 a.m. Teachers explained the rules that the students have to abide and a parent class representative was selected.

 

JULY:           On 1st July a Bulletin Board competition was held on the topic “Environment”. The Committee members of the 3 houses took part in this competition and put up good presentation encouraging students to make the environment clean and green. They were marked for their performance. The Green house secured the 1st place, the Red house the 2nd place and the Blue house the 3rd place.

            On 12th July the AGM Annual General Body Meeting was held from 8 a.m to 9.30 a.m in the school hall. Fr. Anthony Fernandes was the guest speaker. He addressed the parents on ways of bringing up their children. The importance of eating together and praying together. How to make prayer an important part of your child’s life. Parents should check the programmes that are watched by their children. They should be aware of the happenings around them.

            The New Manager Sr. Gesualda was introduced by Sr. Zarina. Sr. Gesualda spoke to the parents and asked for their support and co-operation for the smooth functioning of the educational process of their wards.

            On 16th July Mount Carmel Feast. A mass was organized for teachers and Catholic students of both sections primary and secondary at 12 p.m. Scapulars were distributed after mass.

            A session on environment was organized by Fr. Savio from  Don Bosco’s Matunga. They introduced ‘greenline’ project in our school. Fr. Savio explained about the project to our eco-club members.

            Elocution competitions for English, Hindi and Marathi were conducted by various clubs.

 

AUGUST:  Patriotic song competition was conducted Standardwise. 12th Aug- An educational field trip was arranged for the students. They were taken to globus  for a movie “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”.

14th August: On the eve of Independence a bulletin board competition was held. All the committee members of the 3 houses participated in this competition.

17th August: A recollection was conducted for the Catholic Students & teachers in the School hall.

19th August: Rakhi Competition – student had to use eco- friendly material to make rakhis. They were selected and prizes were given to the winners.

22nd – 23rd August – RSP Camp Igatpuri . The students of Std X accompanied  by Sir. Ignatius, Teachers Anna Maria, Pernel & Sangeeta went for an RSP camp to Igatpuri. The students were taught adventure activities like jummaring, rappling and pistol shooting etc. They were also taken to visit historical temples, a trip to the dam. It ended with a lovely DJ night with lots of fun and frolic.

September: 4th Prayer service for teacher’s day was conducted during the assembly and students wished the teachers in the last 2 periods.

5th Teacher’s Day Celebration began with mass followed by a cultural programme by the students with the Principal’s help. Later the P.T.A organized games and other activities for the teachers. The party concluded with a lunch.

14th Sept- All the Catholic students along with their religion teachers went on a walking pilgrimage to Mount Mary’s Church. The students attended the 8 a.m holy mass.

19th – 20th – As we were celebrating 50 golden years of Duruelo Convent High School, various  inter – school competitions were held on the 19th and 20th of September. Various schools participated in the various competitions arranged. Competitions like English choral recitation, Marathi storytelling, Hindi story telling competition. Dance competitions based on a theme ‘Bharat ke Rang” dance ke sang. Craft competitions like fruit and vegetable carvings slogan writing, collage and power – point presentation stressing on eradication of malnutrition.

            Inter – school hockey matches were conducted by Sir Ignatius on the School ground.

October: Out- reach programmes like visiting orphanages, old age and Childrens’  home were organized.

November: We had the inauguration of Art, Craft , Drawing and  Science exhibition. Projects made by the students were displayed from std V – VIII.

The Grand Finale was held from 28th – 1st Dec.

Our Vision for the Jubilee year was “EMPOWERMENT OUR VISION” We began our  celebration by invoking Gods’ blessings.

On 28th his holiness Rev. Bishop John Rodrigues celebrated the Eucharistic celebration. It was a solemn celebration where priests, nuns and religious were invited. A musical Drama progamme on Mother Foundress was organized. The day ended with a dinner for the present and the ex-staff of Duruelo and the religious.

29th, 30th & 1st Dec – Various programmes were arranged. Students were given an entry pass for 3 days at a concessional price of Rs. 50. The programme began everyday at 6 p.m and ended at 10 p.m.

            The Ex-Principals and ex- teachers were felicitated. Our S.S.C topper of 2012 – 13 Komal Macwan and Khushi a budding artiste were also felicitated.

December: 13th Dec – School Day. Mass was organized in honour of our patron St. John of the Cross.

            An inter school H ward Science exhibition was conducted in the month of December. Projects were sent up by two groups. Students also took part in the essay writing and elocution competition.

20th Dec – Sports Day was celebrated various events were organized for the students. Races were arranged for the teachers and the helpers of the school too.

January:- The entire school from class V to X was taken for a picnic to Tikuji – ni- wadi at thane. Children enjoyed the picnic thoroughly.

26th January Republic Day Celebration was held at Bandstand Bandra. All Bandra schools participated in this event. There was band display and March past by the schools of Bandra.

February:- 19th Shivaji Jayanti was celebrated in the school. There were speeches songs on the famous leader of Maharashtra Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Children had to select any one out of 5 topics given to them and they had to write on any one topic in any of the following languages wither English, Hindi or Marathi. Topics were Raigad, Shivani, Pratapgad, Panhalgad.

            The entire school staff – primary, pre-primary secondary, office staff and helpers all joined the picnic to Anand Resort at Arnala Virar. The teacher enjoyed this day relaxing and rejuvenating themselves. Everybody enjoyed the picnic.

 

Felicitation Programme

                        A felicitation programme was arranged for Mrs. Treeza Furtado of the secondary section and Mrs. Cecilia of the pre-primary section for completion of 25 years (Silver jubilee) for their dedicated and selfless service to this institution. They were felicitated with a trophy and cheque by the  management.

 

Retirement of Teachers

                        A farewell programme was arranged from Mrs. Isabella Fernandes and Mrs. Meena Vijh of the secondary section. A prayer service was conducted for them. After the prayer was conducted for them. After the prayer service, the secondary staff sang a farewell song, Mrs. Sweety and Mrs. Judy expressed their feelings about various experiences with the two teachers respectively. The staff presented flowers and the gifts to the teachers. The Principal thanked the teachers for their dedicated and selfless service to this institution. The teachers then expressed their feelings and thanked the staff for the programme.

 

1st May – Maharashtra Day was celebrated. Students parents and teachers assembled at 7.30 a.m on the  school grounds. A meaningful prayer service, speech and songs related to Maharashtra Day were organized in Marathi by the Marathi teachers. To appreciate the teachers, the Bandra Schools organized a get together for all 850 teachers of Bandra in St. Andrews Auditorium. It was a memorable event.
